- The ITBP Academy was established in
the year 1978. Directly recruited Officers of the rank of
Assistant Commandants, who constitute senior leadership of
the Force and directly recruited Sub-Inspectors, who constitute
subordinate leadership level, are trained in this Academy.
Besides imparting initial training to these Officers, the
Academy has developed specialisation in disciplines like Counter
Insurgency Operations, Rock climbing, VIP protection, and
identification and handling of improvised explosive devices.
- Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy
of Administration and Sardar Vallabhai Patel National Police
Academy on regular basis seek the assistance of ITBP Academy
for capsule courses for Indian Administrative Service Officers
and Indian Police Service Officers in rock climbing and mountain
craft. The Academy attracts quite a large number of trainees
from States and Central Police Forces for training their officers
in specialist courses.
- It also has a Research and Development
wing which specialises in identifying training needs of the
Force and in designing various training programmes. The sponsorship
of trainees to ITBP Academy is not confined to India alone,
as it has on its alumni officers from Nepal and Uganda also.
